On Friday, March 22, 2019, the TY Danjuma Foundation, Nigeria’s first indigenous grantmaking Foundation, organised a one-day capacity building training for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nigeria to improve capacity to source for funding for social development projects.  The event which brought together over 100 NGOs was held concurrently at the CBN International Training Institute in Abuja, as well as in Jalingo, Taraba State and in Benin City, Edo State.

In its 10 years of grantmaking, the Foundation has continually sought to receive feedback regarding its grantmaking process. A major take out from the feedback is the need to improve the understanding of indigenous NGOs on the intricacies of sourcing for funds. Thus, the training was organised to bridge that gap by equipping local organisations with key knowledge of fund sourcing; proposal writing, organisational setup, basic donor funding criteria, and projecting their institutions.

Although the Foundation has carried out similar training programmes in the past, this one targeted organisation that have never received grants from the Foundation; thereby increasing the circumference of impact on learners.

The NGO Training fulfils one of the Foundation’s values of promoting philanthropy in Nigeria. It is expected that from consistent training of this kind, a lot of organisations will be better placed to access both local and international funds to carry out social development projects.

So far, the TY Danjuma Foundation has invested over 3 billion Naira to support 30 million treatments aimed at improving health and well being of Nigerian at the grassroots. The training was an opportunity through which the Foundation may identify new partners to reach more people at the grassroots in need of its philanthropic support.
