The TY Danjuma Foundation has commissioned the Merry Ehanire Mother and Child Hospital in Edo state. The hospital is designed to be a beacon of hope, providing high-quality and cost-effective healthcare services for mothers and children in Benin City and beyond.

The commissioning was performed by the Chairman Emeritus of the Foundation, Lt. Gen. TY Danjuma (Rtd.) on December 2, 2023, in the presence of his wife, Sen. Daisy Danjuma, the Executive Governor of Edo state, and other important dignitaries from across the state and beyond. This hospital was constructed in honour of the mother of Sen. Daisy Danjuma hence the name – Merry Ehanire Mother and Child Hospital.

Quality maternal healthcare during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal is essential for positive health outcomes for mother and child. The World Health Organization (2023), notes that developing nations account for around 95% of all maternal deaths, with relatively low numbers of skilled healthcare providers. Nigeria’s maternal and under-five mortality stands at 512 deaths/per 100,000 live births and 132 deaths/per 1000 live births respectively. Hence, the need for stakeholders to continue to invest in creating access to quality maternal and child health.

The Merry Ehanire Mother and Child Hospital is a state-of-the-art wellness centre with top-notch amenities to ensure complete patient satisfaction in the healing process. The hospital will contribute to reversing the maternal and child mortality rates and strengthen already existing health systems in the state by providing services such as obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, child health, family planning, surgery, laboratory and radiology services and a modern IVF clinic. The hospital will also provide highly specialised cancer screening services to the public.
