The Freeheart Africa Reach Out Foundation, with funding from the TY Danjuma Foundation, is implementing a critical malnutrition-curbing intervention in Kaduna State. As a central part of this effort, 30 primary healthcare workers have undergone an intensive two-day retraining on maternal, infant, and young child nutriotion (MIYCN) practices. The training, which concluded on Friday, April 25, 2026, is designed to strengthen the capacity of these frontline workers to effectively cascade evidence-based nutritional knowledge to mothers and caregivers.

This step-down model is a vital response to the nutrition crisis in the state, where data from UNICEF Nigeria indicates that 50% of children under five are stunted. With one out of every two children in Kaduna suffering from chronic malnutrition, a figure significantly higher than the national average of one in three, the need for targeted intervention is urgent.

Reducing these statistics is a major priority for the TY Danjuma Foundation as part of our broader commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes across Nigeria. This initiative is being implemented with the full support of the Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Board, ensuring a coordinated and sustainable approach to strengthening nutrition services at the grassroots level.
