The TY Danjuma Foundation has commissioned a solar powered borehole providing 10,000 litres of water to Ukpada and Utugwang Communities in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River state. The borehole was built to improve water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for schools in the area. It also provides a source of portable water for the 1000 households in the community. The project was funded by the TY Danjuma Family Office and implemented by Child Care and Adult Protection Initiative (CAPI).

Utugwang boast of 3 primary schools; 2 public and 1 private but all lacked portable source of water to properly implement the WASH.  The schools and community members buy water very from vendors. It is estimated that a household spend up to 200 Naira per day for water, translating to about 4,800 per month for the peasant farming population.

At the commissioning, members of the community were thankful to the Foundation and partners for the prospect of reduced burden of water purchase and agreed to protect the installation. Pupils of the schools in the community also demonstrated hand washing to the cheering of spectators.

In the last 2 years, the Foundation has provided 10 solar powered boreholes in rural communities across Nigeria. It is our hope that this will enhance the quality of lives of Nigerians.
