The official presentation of the materials to the local government chairman, represented by Comrade James Idu; Desk Officer, Local Emergency Management Authority was held at the Aila, Agatu in the presence of the media, community members, and other stakeholders. This fulfills the pledge made during an assessment visit on the May 25, 2016 to provide relief materials to the people of Agatu at Aila.
Comrade James Idu, thanked the Foundation for matching their words with action. He promised the Foundation that the donation will be used for rebuilding their houses and that equity will be used in sharing the donation.
The donation visit which was facilitated by the office of the Governor of Benue state is meant to directly support the rebuilding of houses destroyed in the conflict that ravaged the communities in February. The Foundation prior to this intervention paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Benue State; Dr. Samuel Ortom and then carried out an assessment visit to the community to hold discussions with members of the community, the local government chairman, and community leaders. The report of the assessment determined the type of intervention the Foundation has provided.
Although the Foundations primary intervention areas are in health and education, the Foundation is sensitive and responsive to humanitarian issues as this. It will continue to support and respond to needs of the less privileged in Nigeria.
The Foundation is also currently funding Community Links & Human Empowerment Initiatives (CLHEI) to carry out livelihood support project in Tarka and Gboko local government areas of Benue State.
