TYDF CAVSI Intervention

Keeping with its mission of contributing to building a Nigeria where all citizens have access to quality health care, the TY Danjuma Foundation through one of its grantees Care Vision Support Initiative (CAVSI) organised a free eye camp in Takum LGA to provide free eye care diagnosis and treatment to persons with different visual impairments.

CAVSI has worked with the Foundation successfully for years, delivering free comprehensive eyecare to the poor in rural communities. This year looks to be even more successful with huge turnouts of people from Takum, Wukari, Donga, Kurmi, Ussa and Bali LGAs to benefit from CAVSI’s Eye Camps, funded by the TY Danjuma Foundation. The support given to CAVSI was to provide comprehensive eye care to people with various eye impairments. The tasks accomplished in the Eye Camps include: screening/diagnosis, treatment, refraction, and surgical procedures for different optical conditions such as cataract and glaucoma.

Since the Eye Camp opened, over 800 persons have been attended to; of this number, 400 persons received corrective glasses; 13 cataract surgeries performed; 9 Pterigia were also case treated; while 6 children and 26 adults sent for referral.

The eye camp had the full support of the government, represented by the State Ministry of Health (SMOH); and to ensure adherence to high standards, the TYDF team was there to witness the implementation of the activities.
